Rocaille and contemporary stylesDuring its first decades of operation, the Royal Factory focused on decorative styles with French influence. But after 1750-1755 the Factory started to produce pieces with different decorations and it created its own styles because people who were trained on the Academy achieved high positions in the Factory.
L’Alcora Ceramics: Rocaille and contemporary styles
A lot of designs with floral decorations (some naturalists, other stylized) and motifs organised harmoniously around the surface of the pieces appeared. Some examples are: female busts (madamita), boats (navíos), fruit trees with fountains near to them (chaparro), dogs, cages, military trophies and musical instruments (fanfare), etc.
Rocailles also proliferated on this period, and they are the symbol par excellence of Rococo: asymmetric motifs painted in yellow chiaroscuro associated to architecture with towers, bridges, flags, aquatic motifs and, sometimes, facial human features. This style is popularly known as Álvaro (named after one of their main promoters, Vicente Álvaro Ferrando) and is explained on the documents of the Royal Factory.
